Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs: 4 Character Traits All Business Owners Need to Have
One of most important traits of successful entrepreneurs is self-confidence. As an entrepreneur, or even en-she-preneur, you must have a robust amount of self-confidence.
Entrepreneurs have their own businesses, that come from their own ideas. You will have people who will try to tell you your ideas are too “unrealistic” and that you need to think of a career path that is “reasonable” and of “the real world”. (Yes, I have heard this before, from all types of people. You’d be surprised at how many people don’t believe in you simply because they don’t believe in themselves).
You need to have a lot of self-confidence because when you have reached a certain level of self certainty and awareness, you will be able to realize that the opinions of others mean nothing in your grand scheme of entrepreneurial business.
Self-confidence is also one of the 5 traits of successful entrepreneurs because without confidence, it becomes 10x harder to flourish into who you truly are. Whether you want to be an entrepreneur or not, self-confidence is a trait you need to cultivate in order to be your best self.
As stated in my post 4 Things Every Entrepreneur Should Do Daily, you must not give a f*ck about what anyone thinks of you in order to get the best results. You cannot do this everyday if you don’t have self-confidence. Self confidence is really one of the key traits of successful entrepreneurs!
As an entrepreneur, resilience is such a vital trait to have because you will fail. And you will fail a lot.
I am not saying this to discourage you, I am simply telling you the truth. You can’t become a successful business person over night.
That is impossible, unless you are perhaps very close to someone in the business. But most of us don’t know the people at the top, let alone happen to be closely acquainted with them.
It is important you cultivate the trait of resilience as an entre/shepreneur because it is not an easy job to start and maintain a successful business. If it was, everyone would have one.
Being an entrepreneur takes grit, and a tough exterior. Just as so many things can go right on your entrepreneurship journey, an equal number of things can and will go wrong.
This is where your resilience comes in. With every setback, you will be able to get right back up if you have this trait. Sometimes it may take longer than others to get back up, but a resilient person knows that this is just one small bump on the road to riches.
I myself am a perfect example. I am running this blog like a business, and call myself an en-she-preneur. Most people like to assume that as soon as a person declares entrepreneur then launches their product/platform, that they are now all of a sudden rich and successful. HA.
After almost 6 months of blogging, I am still no where close to my profit goal from INsheP. at all. But does that stop me? Hell no. It pushes me to go harder and harder each day, finding new ways to make my vision true.
I will never give up on INsheP because I am determined, and resilient. I can be knocked down 800 times but I’ll still get back up because of my self confidence and resilience.
The more I write this the most I am noticing that these are not only traits of successful entrepreneurs, but traits of good, well-rounded people in general.
3. Adept communication skills
These traits of successful entrepreneurs are paramount.
Because you can’t run a successful business without communicating with all types of people, from customers, to employees (if applicable) to fellow entrepreneurs.
It is imperative that you know how to effectively communicate with different people about different things. No matter what your business is, if you do not know how to communicate it will fail miserably.
In order to get customers you have to communicate with them, in some way. Whether it be direct (emails, messages) or indirect (social media posts, blog posts) you have to do it.
Communication skills are what I have noticed are a set of skills that comes naturally to a lot of people, and doesn’t come at all for others. It all really depends on who you are.
If you want a good indicator of how naturally good you are at communicating, I strongly recommend taking the MBTI Test. You can find the link to it here, where you can also subscribe to my newsletter for personal tips on how to live your best life based on your individual personality type!
4. Life long thirst for knowledge
This is one of the most important traits of successful entrepreneurs because the best business leaders are the ones who dedicate their lives to learning.
Companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Apple wouldn’t exist if their founders didn’t dedicate their lives to learning new things.
As an entrepreneur, you must always keep an open mind about your business because the world is ever changing. One day something works, the same thing may not work the next day in the world of entrepreneurship. The market can get unpredictable.
With that being said, dedicate to learning atleast one thing new each day. This way you will be on a steady life-long learner incline. You can get knowledge from anywhere from reading a book, to surfing the web, to talking to open-minded people.
Be a sponge. One of the traits of successful entrepreneurs are they are like sponges. They soak in all the new information they possibly ca, only applying the pieces of advice that are relevant to them to their brand and business.
I hope these traits of successful entrepreneurs help you in your journey to finding your truest place in the world, whether it be as an entrepreneur or something else. These are all in all, good traits of good people.
